Tools we use
Knowledge is power. If you are a do-it-yourself-er, here are some great tools we use every day. Most of these tools are free. Please note: as a general rule, free offerings on the Internet are often just bait in a trap. Avoid free downloads. That said, there are a few gems to be found. This page is dedicated to sharing our favorite gems.
Anti-Malware (you can safely have more than one anti-malware program)MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
Our favorite spyware remover is Malwarebytes. With great performance and excellent detection capabilities, it's one of the best available programs to keep your computer clean. If you try it and like it as much as we do, please consider buying their retail program. Download Malwarebytes.
Super AntiSpyware
The free edition does a very thorough job removing malware. We frequently use it along side MalwareBytes for heavily infected computers but is more than capable of standing on its own. Download SuperAntiSpyware.

Antivirus (only one program should be installed at a time)AVG Free Antivirus
AVG Free is a very good antivirus program. Automatic updates and scans can be set. When choosing a great anti-virus program we look at accuracy, performance, speed of updates, and price. AVG scores well in all categories. They also offer a paid version if you are so inclined. Download AVG Antivirus.
Avast! Free Antivirus
Avast is another great antivirus program. It performs as well as AVG but adds the super nice feature of a "boot-time" scan option. This can really save your bacon if a virus disables your antivirus program. They also offer a paid version. Download Avast!.

Vipre Antivirus
Not free! but we think this program is the bee's knees. It's super fast, performs beautifully, and doesn't let much past the front gates. Vipre is not in either anti-malware or antivirus column because it is equally adept at protecting you from both. Vipre actually started life as a popular malware scanner before blossoming into a top-notch anti-everything-bad solution. Most of us use Vipre on our home computers.
